Ingredients

  • FOR MEATBALLS
  • 1 14- ounce can of black beans, rinsed and drained (or red kidney beans)
  • ½ medium white onion, chopped fine (about ½ cup)
  • 2 small cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley (optional)
  • ¼ cup oats or breadcrumbs (certified gluten-free if GF is important to you)
  • ½ - 1 teaspoon fine sea salt or to taste (use less salt if the beans have salt added)
  • freshly cracked black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • grape seed oil for sautéing

  • ¼ cup tamarind paste
  • pinch of cayenne pepper or to taste
